FaceTime to start offering Skype security controls
Seems like Skype just keeps building up steam for a big push into the enterprise. Just a few days ago, the consumer VoIP provider announced that it will offer security solutions for business users. As it turns out, Skype might just have a little competition in that market: security vendor FaceTime Communications has announced that the upcoming Version 3.5 of its Greynet Enterprise Manager (a component of FaceTime Internet Security Edition) will include features for enterprise-wide Skype management. Using APIs that Skype provided for developers, FaceTime was able to include options for turning on or off various features within Skype, for example, file sharing. "The choice in the past has always been permit or deny," said Kurt Sauer, Skype's chief security officer. "That has not been a particularly useful choice." Regardless of the competition, I'm sure Skype won't be upset, as the more security solutions there are on the market, the more comfortable enterprises will feel about allowing Skype use.
