Extended Gmail outage leaves paying customers fuming
A protracted Gmail outage has left some Google Apps administrators at their wit's end. Google says that the problem only affects "a small number of users." But the real problem is that Google experienced three significant outages affecting paying Google Apps Premier customers in August. At that time, Google extended a credit to all Apps Premier customers and promised to improve its communication in the future. At this moment however, Google has offered no explanation as to what the problem might be, or how long the company will take to get everything working again. Regardless of what happens next, that's one strike against the reliability of a cloud-based computing platform.
