Editor's Corner

So, Bill Gates is stepping down from his daily job at Microsoft. As noted in several articles, his dedication to global philanthropy is genuine, especially regarding education and healthcare. Many people are wondering how long he can truly stay away and watch his company being run by others. Others suggest it's time for Steve Ballmer to step down as well, but personally, I think that's foolish. Still others say maybe Mr. Gates will go to Washington. It's not my place to give a political opinion here, just a technological one, but I will say this with tongue firmly in cheek: nobody's more successful than Gates at imposing his will on the rest of the world, so if it's democracy he's preaching, then why not?

A correction: In yesterday's story "DotNetNuke delivers new online framework." I wrote that the new 3.3/4.3 versions are now based on the Microsoft ASP.Net platform. DotNetNuke founder Shaun Walker pointed out that I was wrong; it's always been based on ASP.net. Also in the story I asked why there's a version number discrepancy. Walker explained, "In November 2005 we released two versions of the application--DotNetNuke 3.2 for ASP.Net 1.1 and DotNetNuke 4.0 for ASP.Net 2.0. In this latest iteration we are still providing full support for both platforms--DNN 3.3 for ASP.Net 1.1 and DNN 4.3 for ASP.Net 2.0." Readers, I apologize for any confusion caused by my botched explanation. - Evan
