Bugs, mergers, standards and upgrades dominate too much of our thinking time in the IT world, and this week's news was as much a microcosm of that trend as any other week. But if you think that's a preoccupation, wait until you go to work one day soon and the boss demands to know why you're still running the network on IPv4. Two weeks ago, I asked for your knowledge of retrofitting IPv6 into current editions of Windows. Several readers wrote back to inform me that IPv6 became available for Windows as early as the 2000 version, but that it was hardly supported, and that it's somewhat more supported but still not exactly easy in XP. So here's a new question: What do people expect regarding IPv6 in the new Windows Vista and Longhorn Server? This time I'd especially like to hear from any beta testers out there. - Evan
