Several stories this week centered on data management--how to build it, store it, use it and recover it. Hewlett-Packard said its NIC products aren't dead yet; EMC is working on new VMware software and a Documentum partnership with Adobe; Cisco is worrying about grids and security; Microsoft is offering near-continuous backup and is playing nice with open-source advocate JBoss (ever think you'd see that last one?). Meanwhile, Iron Mountain is preaching encryption; Brocade is updating wide-area file services; and the US Air Force says business intelligence rocks. What are you doing to smarten up your data? Tell us by email. - Evan
