About 10 percent of the millions of DNS servers connected to the Internet are vulnerable to redirection attacks, researcher Dan Kaminsky says. Kaminsky tested almost 30 of the world's 9 million DNS servers. The problem is that successful redirections, also known as poisoning attacks, lead visitors to sites loaded with spyware and viruses, for which the attackers are paid. A temporary solution is to upgrade those servers to the Berkeley Internet Name Domain 9 software, experts said. That should be considered urgent, since redirection attacks (also known as poisoning) are becoming easier to perform.
