Demand for 10G and 40G Ethernet grows despite state of economy

Enterprise demand for high-bandwidth Ethernet services will not be affected by the current state of the economy, if a new report from Infonetics Research is to be believed. The study pegged worldwide services and equipment revenue for 10Gbps Ethernet service in 2008 at $9.5 billion--that's up 30% from last year. In addition, demand for 40Gbps Ethernet is expected to grow rapidly prior to the availability of 100G, as 100G service is expected to only hit its stride around 2013. Michael Howard, a co-founder and principal analyst at Infonetics believes that 100G will be able to meet the demand for enterprise bandwidth into the next decade, at least.
