Dell 'remains committed to AMD'
After Dell abruptly pulled AMD-based consumer machines from its website last week, AMD fans started to worry that a full retreat back to Intel might be on the horizon. While Dell hasn't exactly been forthcoming with regard to the future of AMD-based Dell machines, we now have a bit more information on what's going on. Good news for enterprise customers: Dell's business-oriented OptiPlex, Vostro, and Latitude lines will continue to carry AMD chips for the foreseeable future. Things on the consumer side look a bit more grim, however, as only the Inspiron D531 desktop and Inspiron 1501 laptop can currently be configured with AMD chips online--the rest of the company's AMD-based consumer offerings have been relegated to retail outlets. While this certainly doesn't bode well for fans of AMD, it's good to know that Dell will continue selling the systems to businesses, at least for the time being.
