Dell makes big server push
With Cisco's recent push into the server market, Dell is certainly not resting on its laurels. In order to gain ground in the lucrative server market, Dell has put together an impressive portfolio of 14 new products in a concerted push into the server market. The new hardware ranges from the new M-series blade servers, PowerEdge servers, Precision workstations, as well as EqualLogic storage arrays. At the same time, the company has also revamped its host of services.
However, the company certainly has a lot of ground to cover. According to IDC's most recent tally, Dell commands just 9.8 percent of the x86 blade market. In contrast, HP has just over 58 percent, while IBM's has 22 percent. In terms of rack-mounted servers though, Dell's 27.1 percent of the market puts it in second place, again behind HP.
