Dell has just unveiled a new 11.6-inch laptop powered by a low-voltage AMD processor. Weighing about 1.5kg, the company says the Inspiron M101z can run up to 6.5 hours, while the presence of AMD's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics ensures its ability to playback both streaming and HD videos.

What caught my attention though, is the incorporation of Bluetooth 3.0. Armed with AMP, or Alternate MAC/PHY, Bluetooth 3.0 allows much faster transfers of up to 24 Mbps by piggybacking on an 802.11 link, otherwise known as Wi-Fi. In a nutshell, the standard Bluetooth mechanism for device discovery and configuration is maintained, with data being automatically routed via Wi-Fi in when large quantities of data are being transferred.

Of course, other devices supporting Bluetooth 3.0 will first have to appear, which hopefully shouldn't be too long now. According to Dell, the new Inspiron has a starting price of US$449 and supports up to 8GB of memory.
