Dell to cut 8,800 jobs
Bad news for Dell employees: The Round Rock, TX company has announced a plan to cut $3 billion in costs over the next three years and as you might imagine, that puts quite a few jobs on the chopping block. The company already has handed out 3,200 pink slips, and plans to cut an additional 6,500 jobs in departments like design, manufacturing and logistics. What's more, the company will close a desktop manufacturing plant in Austin, citing reduced customer interest in desktop machines in recent years. With a tough economic climate on the horizon, we could start seeing cutbacks like this throughout the industry, so make sure you've got a "plan B" on the backburner.
