Dell Crystal is the prettiest display...ever

As you might recall, just about this time last year, Dell showed off a smokin' hot 22" LCD display at CES in Vegas. Super thin, crystal clear and sporting a DisplayPort connector (hot off the specification presses, I might add), the concept display had geeks far and wide drooling over its design. Now, after a year of relative quiet, Dell has shockingly announced that the concept device will soon be available to the general public...well, sort of. Seems like Dell might have jumped the gun a bit--the company posted info about the Dell Crystal (as it is now called) to its website but then promptly pulled it without explanation. Luckily, Hot Hardware managed to grab the spec sheet, so we know what Dell has in store for us. Unfortunately, it looks like Dell dropped the DisplayPort, though you'll still get DVI/HDMI (with HDCP), USB, subwoofer-out and power, all through a single cable. Additionally, the display sports a 1680x1050 WSXGA+ LCD panel, 2ms response time, 2000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, built-in speakers and webcam and capacitive-touch controls. And did we forget to mention that this limited edition unit is just about the prettiest-looking display...well, ever? Unfortunately, all that design comes at a price: $1199 or roughly three times more than a similar 22" Dell display. At any rate, it's nice to see Dell stepping up their design game a bit--keep up the good work, boys and girls!
