Comcast hit by major outage over the weekend
Comcast was hit by a major outage on Sunday that apparently affected subscribers from Boston to Washington, D.C. Depending on location, the outage lasted several hours, though it is understood from the nation's largest broadband Internet provider that the issue has since been resolved. Some customers are still complaining of connectivity problems will need to reboot their modems, says a company spokesman on Monday.
Comcast says its engineers are still investigating the root cause, though reports indicate that the source of this downtime has to do with its Domain Name Servers (DNS). This seems entirely plausible, given that video and phone services were supposedly unaffected. In addition, several Comcast users have also shared how they were able to regain Internet access after replacing Comcast's DNS servers with Google's free DNS service. In a statement, Comcast says it is unclear about the number of customers who were affected.
