Cobol comes to Amazon's cloud
In an inexorable migration toward cloud-based computing, yet another company, enterprise software company, Micro Focus, has announced that it is extending its Enterprise Cloud Services to support Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). This move will allow businesses with legacy COBOL applications to shift it into the clouds.
Micro Focus announced support for Microsoft's Windows Azure Services Platform in October last year. Overhyped for a number of years, it is heartening to see from recent development that cloud-based computing is slowly but surely taking off. Not all cloud vendors are created equal obviously, though even EMC has stepped into the ring with its Atmos storage platform. Whatever your opinion of cloud-based services, it's certainly going to be an exciting year ahead for cloud computing.
