Cisco rolls out tools to manage WLAN interference
At Interop last week, Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) took the opportunity to demonstrate its CleanAir RF interference avoidance product for wireless networks. Brett Galloway, senior vice president of Cisco's wireless, security and routing group demonstrated how the company's technology can detect and identify up to 20 unique interference sources--ranging from microwave ovens to Bluetooth devices--and adjust the APs accordingly in order to overcome them.
Cisco says that its goal is to provide customers with the ability to better manage their WLAN without the heavy costs associated with WLAN troubleshooting.
With the increasing use of wireless networking, Chris Kozup, senior manager of mobility solutions for Cisco, summed up the challenge for the enterprise, "The challenge is how do we protect performance of the 11n network and maintain our support costs in light of all these uses [of wireless networking]."
