Cisco forms application networking division
Cisco Systems announced its new division, called Application Networking Delivery, based on the $70 million acquisition of Fineground Networks this summer. Cisco also announced new versions of Fineground's switches, now called Application Velocity System and reworked for compatibility with Cisco's Catalyst 6000 network health appliances; and they announced a combination of content-switching and wide-area file services onto one platform. The strategy is intended not to overlap with AON, which is Cisco's back-end, server-less application delivery series.
