C&L: AMD gets Jeff VerHeul; Petra Heinrich leaves Novell

Advanced Micro Devices hired Jeff VerHeul as corporate vice president of silicon design. VerHeul formerly led IBM's Engineering and Technology Services division and spent a total of 25 years at Big Blue.
Petra Heinrich has left Novell, officials said. Insiders say the former IBM Lotus employee and SuSE Linux expert is in talks to join Open-Xchange, another open-source specialist.
Providence Equity Partners hired former FCC chairman Michael Powell to work on media and communications investments. He'll also be the firm's regulatory adviser.
Jamison Marra, the former CTO of Electronic Data Systems, joined MessageGate as CTO and VP of Engineering. Marra also worked at T-Mobile, Amazon.com, and Microsoft.
James L. Zucco, a former CIO at MCI, has been elected to Ureach Technologies' board of directors. Zucco currently serves as CEO of Corente, a provider of on-demand application delivery and management services.
