Bugs put widely used DNS software at risk

Attackers could crash the Internet's domain name system servers or even install their own software by using newly located bugs, according to a new study. The bugs were found by researchers at Finland's University of Oulu. Some vendors say the bugs are not particularly high-risk. Others, including Cisco Systems, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems--a trio whose products run much of the 'net--say they have not yet finished testing the bug. Is a DNS meltdown a matter of when, not if?
