Blogger builds $500 PC for Vista with Aero enabled
Around these parts, I can often be heard griping loudly about Windows Vista's high system requirements. 2-4GB of RAM, a zippy processor, a high-end graphics card--this stuff adds up. Pretty soon you discover that you don't just need a new OS, you need a whole new PC to run it. Working to dispel the myth of Vista being for high-end systems only, the author of J2's Site has designed a dual-core system for a mere $538.01 that can supposedly run Vista with Aero Glass enabled "very well." Now, granted, his price doesn't include a keyboard, mouse, monitor or a copy of Vista but chances are, you have most of those things handy anyway (with the exception of Vista). Head over to the blog and scope the list of components, most of which are neither high-end or low-end but somewhere in the middle. This is certainly encouraging news but I'd like to see someone actually build the PC and run Vista on it before putting too much stock in the numbers.
