Beatles for sale! Sorry Apple, no iTunes exclusive
This one comes to us from the good news for the consumer, bad news for Apple department. Despite earlier rumors, testimony from the head of Apple Corps. seems to indicate that the entire Beatles catalog (remastered, natch) is coming to the Internet, courtesy of iTunes--and every other major download service. "All 13 core albums, the ones originally released on CD in 1987, have been remastered," Neil Aspinall, head of Apple Corps. and longtime guardian of the Beatles legacy, told Fox News this week. "At some point they will all be released, probably at the same time...it will be on all the services, not just one." This is huge news for Apple's competitors, since an Apple/Beatles exclusive deal has been expected since even before the two Apples reached an agreement for use of the "Apple" name. What's more, Fox suggests that "The Beatles, sources say...may have won royalties on Apple iTunes/iPod hardware as part of the settlement."
