BEA announces open-source acquisition, new server
BEA Systems, unable to compete against IBM's and Oracle's software stacks, is instead taking on open-source partner and rival JBoss by acquiring tools maker M7 for an undisclosed amount. M7 focuses on Eclipse-based web applications. BEA also announced the new WebLogic Real Time Edition, which is a hot-swappable, high-end application server. That should ship later this year, officials said.
