Axis Communications has unveiled a number of new cameras for surveillance and security, including a new 5-megapixel fixed network model with HDTV 1080p performance. Meant for city surveillance, the indoor AXIS P1347 Network Camera and outdoor-ready AXIS P1347-E model are designed for situations where extremely high image detail is required. To reduce bandwidth, the company says that the cameras support pan/tilt/zoom and multi-view streaming, which enables several cropped view areas to be streamed simultaneously.

Another model, the P5532 PTZ Dome Network Camera, comes with pan, tilt and zoom functionality, and provides 29x optical and 12x digital zoom with auto-focus. The ability to do an auto-flip means that it can pan 360 degrees--beyond the mechanical stop. All cameras come with support for PoE (Power over Ethernet), which allows the use of a single Ethernet cable to carry both video and power.
