Asus plans to sell 3.8M Eee PCs in 2008

You can't say that they're not tenacious: Asus, maker of the runaway hit Eee PC, plans to sell 3.8 million of the tiny laptops in 2008. That's quite an ambitious number for a single model of PC and Asus will have to have to shake things up a bit to keep the Eeexcitement high in 2008. Looks like they're planning on it: the latest rumors suggest that Asus is in talks with Microsoft to bring a "stripped-down version" of Windows XP to the tiny notebook next year. Apparently, the Windows version of the Eee would be aimed at emerging markets--no word yet on whether or not it would be sold in North America, though it seems likely that it would be. While specific pricing information isn't yet available either, an Asus employee "close to the project" told DailyTech that the Windows Eee "will carry a premium somewhere between $30 and $60 over the base cost of the system."
