Apple will launch iPhone, ultraportable MacBook Pro
We're just days away from the MacWorld Expo and as the anticipation reaches a fever pitch, Apple has decided to stoke the fires of speculation by posting a cryptic message on the front page of their website: "The first 30 years were just the beginning. Welcome to 2007." Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you'll know that Apple is widely expected to announce their "iPhone" product during Steve Jobs's keynote at the MacWorld Expo next week. The only question is, what will the "iPhone" do? Speculation has been running rampant for years now: Will it wash your clothes, walk your dog and basically be the best phone ever? No. Here's what I think: Apple will announce two phones--one will ship immediately and the other will launch later this year. The first will be little more than an iPod Nano with basic phone capabilities while the latter will boast more advanced smartphone functions including real-time IM using Apple's iChat platform (and by proxy, AOL and Jabber). Both phones will come in a shockingly small and sleek Nano-style case and will operate on a Cingular-run Apple network. What's more, the company will debut an ultraportable 12" laptop aimed at business professionals and (please let it be true) a new model of the high-end MacPro with a new look designed by Jonathan Ive. Unlike the phones, these latter two products probably won't see the light of day until later in the year.
