Apple unleashes 8-core Mac Pro into the wild

Mac fans, welcome to Clovertown. The long-awaited, heavily rumored and unceremoniously leaked 8-core Mac Pros are now available at an Apple store near you--just in time for Adobe's CS3. As expected, they rock two of Intel's 3.0 Ghz, quad-core Xeons (also known as the "Clovertown" chip) and a fat price tag to match: the eight-core beast will run you just shy of $4000. Of course, more affordable ("affordable" being a relative term, of course) systems using the dual-core Woodcrest chip are also still available. If you're considering a new Mac Pro, you might also want to take a gander at Apple's lineup of cinema displays, which saw an accompanying price drop of $100-200. Of course, this is likely a ploy to clear out old inventory in advance of the rumored new display lineup. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to update my "Things I will buy if I win the lottery" list.
