Apple set to announce new iPods next week
Mark your calendars, iPod fans: the rumored September 5 date has been confirmed by Apple, with a "special event" scheduled for 10 a.m. PDT. Above you'll see the official press invitation, which offers a few tantalizing clues as to what we can expect to see after the long weekend. Judging by the invite, it looks like that touchscreen iPod with coverflow is pretty much a sure thing and those fat Nanos seem likely too. As rock history buffs will note, there's also a reference to the last line of the final Beatles press release hidden in that invite ("Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on, the beat goes on"), which seems to suggest the long-rumored Beatles/iTunes announcement may finally be upon us as well. Would it be too much to ask for "one more thing?" Apple's cinema displays and MacPro towers are staring to look a bit long in the tooth and it sure would be nice to have some new hardware to go with those new iPods...
