Apple rumor circuit: New iMacs, 24" display soon

We're now less than a month away from WWDC and the Apple rumor elves--those magical creatures who live in a tree in Cupertino and lovingly create Apple rumors--are ramping up production. Apple's tried and true iMac line is surely due for a refresh and according to rumors, it's going to be a snoozer, much like the new MacBooks. One interesting tidbit, however: the 17-incher might be getting the boot, making the 20-inch iMac the new low-end model. Apple does incrementally increase the size of the iMac's display from time to time, so this is certainly a possibility, especially since the company no-longer sells 17-inch stand-alone displays. According to the rumor, Apple will also ditch its 23-inch cinema display in favor of a 24-incher; a decision that would likely have more to do with the availability of 23-inch LCD panels from Samsung more than anything else. According to the rumor, the new display would use the same panel as the iMac, allowing Apple to reduce the number of different components that it buys--which is a shame because it sure would be nice to see an LED-backlit panel in there instead.
