Apple refreshes iPod Touch, adds dual camera

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) on Wednesday unveiled the iPod Touch 4G, which now comes with dual cameras and retina display technology. A built-in microphone and the incorporation of the A4 processor meant that the new iPod Touch now supports Facetime for video calling. Slimmer than the existing version, the new iPod Touch will be available in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, though the price for the base (8GB) model is $50 more than that previous generations of iPod Touch.

Not everyone is impressed though. At least one tech site noted that the device is "essentially an iPhone 4, minus the phone and SMS functions." One aspect that I don't see mentioned is the security implications of the built-in camera. I know of quite a few commercial and military installations that forbid devices with built-in cameras. While employers and military personnel were able to bring the older iPod Touch into these facilities, the same will unfortunately not be true of the iPod Touch 4G.
