Apple issues Quicktime security update
Well, that was fast. As many Mac fans have doubtless already noticed, the company has issued a security update for Quicktime that fixes a vulnerability that was recently discovered by researcher Dino Dai Zovi during the "PWN to Own" contest. Exactly one week ago, researchers discovered that the bug could have serious repercussions for all Quicktime users, including Windows users. It's encouraging to see Apple responding so quickly to the flaw, which could be "exploited through a rigged website and [could] let an attacker control computers running both Mac OS X and Windows." It turns out that the flaw could allow for arbitrary code execution via a malicious Java applet--serious stuff indeed. What's more, due credit has been given to Dai Zovi and the TippingPoint Zero Day Initiative for discovering the bug.
