Another cloud-like service launched

Yet another cloud-like hosting service has been unveiled, this time by RagingWire, a company that deals with co-location services. A new business unit called StrataScale was setup by the company to serve smaller customers who prefer to offload the management of their own IT resources. According to Douglas Adams, vice president of sales and marketing for StrataScale, "Customers told us they wanted more services. They wanted us to take over these layers of infrastructure."

How its managed hosting service works is like this: Customers select an operating system, storage and firewall via a secure portal. Once the final request has been submitted, the entire environment is then built within the span of just three minutes, and then it's ready for use. Interestingly, the company prefers not to use the word "cloud," probably due to the amount of hype that is being tacked onto it.
