Analysts: Over 500,000 iPhones sold

Tools

After waiting in line for the iPhone on Friday, we walked away quite surprised with the number of phones Apple was somehow able to produce in time for the device's launch. After all, our buddy Arsalan had 33 folks ahead of him in line, yet he still managed to snag one of the highly-coveted 8GB models. Now, the analysts are starting to weigh in on the launch and it looks like Apple may have already sold just north of 500,000 phones during the iPhone's opening weekend. The folks at Piper Jaffray cite the 500,000 figure while Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry thinks as many as 525,000 were sold. If these figures are accurate, that makes the iPhone launch an unqualified success, regardless of the device's future prospects.
