AMD gears up to launch 45nm Shanghai processor
Advanced Micro Devices is starting to line up partners who will be offering server systems based on its new 45-nanometer processor, code named Shanghai, which has been shipping since September. These partners include the likes of Penguin Computing, Verari Systems and Rackable Systems. Systems based on this processor are expected to hit the market in November. Indeed, the new Shanghai processor will be officially launched on November 13 and 14, just a week behind Intel's official launch of its i7 processors. Obviously, reviewers will be pitching the Shanghai against the Intel i7. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, considering the i7 received rave reviews, in terms of its performance.
