AMD counters Conroe with '4x4,' power programs
Advanced Micro Devices has some plans to counter its arch-rival Intel. AMD's dual-core Athlon 64 X2 chip was widely reported to be slower than Intel's new Core 2 Duo chip in several reviews last week, but AMD says details of its follow-up chip with four cores will be announced soon. Meanwhile, they're planning an eight-core chip for next year, along with new lows in power requirements. Prices will be dropped--but not to past levels, they added.
