Amazon is launching into email with the beta launch of its Amazon Simple Email Service (SES), which the company touts as a "highly scalable and cost-effective bulk and transactional email-sending service" suited for businesses and developers. Existing users of Amazon EC2 or the new AWS Elastic Beanstalk will be allowed to send 2,000 emails for free each day; after which it will cost 10 cents per thousand emails. Do note that data transfer fees still apply, though the free 15GB of data transfer in (and another 15GB for data transfer out) for those that qualify for the AWS free usage tier should be adequate for Amazon SES usage. See more on the new service here.
