Alcatel pushing 10GigE for enterprises

Alcatel next month will ship a new series of network switches designed to bring 10 Gigabet Ethernet to desktop computers. The OmniSwitch 9700 and 9800 have 10- and 18-port chassis, respectively, along with high-end features like redundant and hot-swappable components, IPv6 and multicasting, and clustering features. They're especially useful for high-bandwidth applications like nightly backups and voice/video over IP, officials noted.
