Akamai CEO sees opportunity in economic downturn
It may be tempting to talk about the negative effects of the current economic downturn, but not everyone sees it in the same light. Paul Sagan, President and CEO of Akamai Technologies, for one, is of the opinion that the recession will push some companies to accelerate their shift to embrace the Internet. Considering Akamai is one of the top content delivery networks around, it thinks it can emerge from this downturn stronger than before.
In an interview with IDG News Service, Sagan noted that there is a strong correlation between the poor economy and an increased demand for online services--as evidenced by record online shopping during Q4 last year. Of course, Akamai is not resting on its laurels either. The company's sales team is spending more than ever with customers, in order to ensure that its service doesn't end up with other expenses on the chopping block.
