Adobe to release Reader fix this week

Last week, we noted that a flaw had been discovered in Adobe Reader that would allow a PDF link to trigger a Universal Cross Site Scripting attack via plug-ins in Opera and Firefox. The prognosis got worse last Friday, when it was discovered that the flaw could allow remote access to a user's hard drive. Yikes! Adobe was surprisingly mum throughout this course of events, making a few of us a bit anxious about the prospects of a timely fix. Well, worry not, the company has broken the silence, announcing that patches will be released this week. Until then, the company continues to recommend that users either upgrade to Adobe Reader 8.0 or disable the Reader plug-in in all vulnerable browsers.
