Adobe releases Apollo alpha
Adobe Systems today plans to release the first public version of Apollo a piece of software that allows developers to leverage existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, Ajax) to build and deploy desktop rich Internet application (RIAs) that run online and offline. The alpha release includes a software development kit (SDK) and a runtime file, which is similar in concept to the Flash engine users install on their PCs to run Flash content. Kevin Lynch, SVP and chief software architect at Adobe points out: "Apollo will empower millions of Web developers to make their RIAs first-class citizens on the desktop using the tools they already know."
