Computer manufacturer Acer has confirmed that it will be launching a tablet at the Computex show in June, which is just two weeks from now. While the company declined to disclose the operating system that it will run on, there is speculation that Acer's tablet will be based on Google's Chrome operating system or even the mobile-centric Android.

For now, VentureBeat is reporting that multiple sources have confirmed with it that Acer will indeed be launching Chrome OS devices at the major computer exhibition held in Taipei.

Regardless of the operating system behind Acer's new tablet, there is no doubt that the Apple iPad (NASDAQ: AAPL) has effectively turned the entire industry on its head and created acceptance of a niche that has never really attracted much attention in the past.  While the iPad is enjoying a solo run in the U.S. for now, computer makers in Asia are moving quickly to launch new tablets as quickly as possible. While it would be premature to name any winners at this point, it appears to be a near certainty that a large number of tablets will be shipped in the next couple of years.

Do you have plans to get a tablet anytime soon?
