7 bulletins for final Patch Tuesday of 2012

There will be seven security bulletins for the last Patch Tuesday of 2012 next week, five of which are critical. The remaining two have been pegged as important. Affected applications include all versions of Internet Explorer, from IE6 to IE10, various versions of Exchange Server, and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Word.

A kernel mode drivers issue on Windows is also patched, and affects practically all versions of the Windows operating system with the exception of Windows 8.

One thing worth noting is the need to restart Exchange Server after patching. Also, the problem in Word should be fixed as soon as possible, as it involves RTF parsing that can be exploited through the Outlook Review Pane. As such, the weakness can be exploited by a maliciously crafted email.

The final bulletins are classified as important and pertain to the newly released Windows RT platform, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
