3Com to unify network and security management

After years of ignoring the enterprise, 3Com has decided to jump back into enterprise networking. Working to integrate security into its network offerings, the company announced yesterday that it will integrate its TippingPoint Prevention System (IPS) together with H3C's networking and security offerings. H3C is the networking company it owned in China.

The result of the integration is a Secure Network Fabric that will offer security, network infrastructure and policy management within a single framework. Comparing itself with competitors, 3Com noted that it has "leapfrogged Cisco in security with similar performance but with less cost and four times less rack space and power." 

Some of the new products would be the H3C SecPath F-Series and H3C SecBlade VPN firewalls, which are already generally available in the United States. The SecPath product family offers line-rate protection up to multiple 10Gb Ethernet connections, while the SecBlade modules are meant to be paired with compatible network switch and chassis.
