If you follow the world of mobile web browsers, you'll want to take note of the fact that Opera is preparing to release the latest version of its mobile browser software. Opera Mobile 9.5 comes packed with a host of new features, including an all new rendering engine (allegedly making the browser 2.5 times faster than IE while improving support for AJAX/JavaScript-based dynamic web content), full Flash support, browser history text search and more. Opera is expected to demo the new browser at GSMA in Barcelona next week, with public betas expected for Windows Mobile, Symbian and Linux shortly afterward.

For more on the latest version:
- see this Engadget post

Browser flaw hits IE and Firefox

Since its debut, Mozilla's Firefox browser has been deemed safer and more secure than Internet Explorer by many--but that doesn't mean it's free of vulnerabilities. Researchers have found an issue in the browser's password manager, which lets users store passwords and user names related to specific sites. The vulnerability could allow hackers access to passwords and other confidential information. Mozilla had admitted that the flaw exists, as has Microsoft, since the flaw also affects Internet Explorer. But neither vendor has yet to release a patch.

For more on the new browser security issue:
- check out the news at CIO Today

XML flaw a risk in new IE version

Yesterday's Patch Tuesday brought fixes for Windows, including one deemed "critical," which was tied to Microsoft's XML Core Services components. The flaw also poses a risk for users of Internet Explorer 7, which Microsoft recently began rolling out through its Automatic Update service. All of Microsoft's customers are expected to have the new browser by year's end. Analysts recommend that everyone upgrade to the new version, due to enhanced security provisions.

For more on the patch, IE news:
- check out the article at BPM Today

Why IE7 is a good upgrade decision

Still undecided about whether upgrading to IE7 is a good move? Well, according to a panel of analysts, it's a no brainer. The new browser is more secure and offers a slew of new features (tabbed browsing, integrated search and RSS) that make upgrading compelling. Yet, if your enterprise dumped IE6 to go with another browser, IE7 probably isn't worth coming back for.

For more on why upgrading is a good option:
- check out the news at TechWeb

IE, Firefox vulnerabilities crop up

A week nearly went by without a new browser flaw being discovered. Oh, well. This time, two new vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Internet Explorer, one of which could also cause issues for Mozilla's Firefox, have been revealed. One flaw involves the process of accessing documents provided between Web sites. The second flaw is connected to how HTA applications are run. Security experts say no hacker has yet used the flaws to do anything malicious.

New worm targets IM users

A new worm, being described by security experts as "insidious," hijacks a user's Internet Explorer home page and pulls up a new browser window that for all purposes looks legit but actually allows the worm to grab instant messaging contact information. In an advisory alert issue late last week, FaceTime Communications said the malware, which is being called "yhoo32.explr," also drops a graphic on the infected user's desktop with the message: "You are beaten. It is useless to resist."

For more on the new IM worm:
- read the article at Computerworld
