One-Minute Tutorial: Understanding RIA

Although the term might be unfamiliar to many, Rich Internet Application (RIA) can be a useful tool, especially for customer-facing applications. RIAs are web applications with the features and functions of traditional desktop applications that transfer the processing necessary for the user interface to the web client while keeping most of the data on the application server.

Learn more about the benefits of RIA:
- read the definition at Wikipedia
- or read a blog entry from an RIA fan at FlexLive

Oracle releases over 60 security patches

Microsoft constantly gets slapped over its "Patch Tuesday" approach and the fact that there always seems to be some sort of new vulnerability with one of its products. But Oracle could end up topping Microsoft when it comes to patching and security fixes--the database vendor issued 65 new patches in its security release. To be fair, the vendor only patches releases on a quarterly basis. The slew of fixes include issues with Oracle's database, application server and e-business suite products.

For more on the Oracle fixes:
- see this article at TechWorld

PLUS: How Oracle is looking to improve its patching process. Article

Linux grabbing more server network traction

The Linux operating system is steadily gaining ground for many more reasons than a potential lower cost. As pundits and experts note, the OS is just as easy to use as Windows, can provide competitive advantages other systems lack and is gripping traction from its core area of Web servers and moving into application server networks. A big reason is that the kernel is getting more stable everyday.

For more on why Linux is moving ahead:
- read this article at CIO Today
