With the New Year just six weeks away, here comes a encouraging report on how today's IT enterprise will quickly morph into an invigorated, innovative business unit, taking a more critical role in making business happen. It's tied to a new growth cycle that's full of new Web-based technologies such as collaborative Wikis and marketing applications. IT will shift from serving as an end-user support base to serving as the policy driver, when it comes to data management.

Apple turns a healthy 30

Just like any business that has survived a few decades, Apple has constantly been reinventing itself as a technology innovator and product maker. As it celebrates its 30th birthday, the vendor is finding new commerce ground with its ever-popular iPod and continues to morph its operating system to meet user expectations and needs. While it didn't invent the computer, its history and tenure is clear evidence it is a prime reason why many are happy using computers today.

For more on Apple turning 30:
- read this News.com article

Microsoft's latest mini-PC strategy emerges

There was much hype and rumor mongering as Microsoft readied its latest product, codenamed Origami: What the vendor termed as an "ultra-mobile personal computer" (UMPC). But as with most of today's new technology, Microsoft's mini-PC isn't really a new product. Several other vendors are set to debut very similar devices and, as experts explain, there are some big hurdles in having UMPCs take root, from a high price point to a customer's need for yet another mobile device to carry around. What is so interesting is that the product does mark a new business strategy by Microsoft to ensure that its software applications morph and fit all the new mobile devices coming to market.

For more on the future for mini-mini PCs:
- read this KnowledgeWharton article at CIO
