Hosted CRM vendors need new tack

Sales of hosted CRM software grew 60 percent in 2005, according to AMR Research, but that doesn't mean the software is appropriate for all enterprises. It's not always the cost-saver that it seems, but comparing hosted prices to traditional software pricing models can be complicated. Even when cost savings are realized, customers must weigh a host's ability to minimize downtime with internal IT abilities and priorities. Another vital factor is service-level agreements--system downtime is …

Salesforce.com syncs into big biz with SAP R/3

Salesforce.com, in its constant battle to move up-market, is now introducing middleware for connecting its hosted CRM software with SAP's R/3 resource planning software. The upgrade will be available July 30. That feature works in conjunction with the new Salesforce Summer '06 edition, which is basically version 20 of the software. Also new in this version are call scripting and lead-tracking features, plus regulatory compliance tools.

RightNow buys CRM rival Salesnet for $9M

SAP finally debuts hosted CRM service

SAP launched its long-awaited hosted CRM product yesterday. The official name is "SAP CRM On Demand" and it costs $75 per user each month with a 100-user minimum subscription, officials said. On the back end, the software integrates with traditional SAP applications and runs on IBM DB2 databases. So the application seems cheap and solid enough to try, but it's probably wise to wait six months while they work out any bugs.

SAP due for hosted CRM, profit climbs 14%

SAP is expected to release its hosted CRM software next month. That's significant because SAP is considered the leading traditional CRM vendor, and its success or failure with a hosted version could be a bellwether for the rest of the hosted software industry. Does the success of mid-market solutions like salesforce.com's mean that enterprise versions can also succeed, or is that sort of code base just too much for any hosted model to contain? And what would the hosted version really …

SAP readies fresh wave of CRM activity

Back in April, SAP announced CRM 2005 but said it won't ship until late October. Now that time frame is imminent. The big changes in CRM 2005 are new levels of customization, based on new back-end modularity, a precursor to the next generation or two expected to be fully service-based. Meanwhile, SAP still isn't revealing its hosted CRM plan. We wonder, is it merely vaporware?
