It's coming and it's big. I mean really, really big. It's so big you should be afraid, very afraid because your database can't handle it. It's the attack of "Big Data" and it's coming soon to an
Argentinian security research company Argeniss has made an Oracle database rootkit available in its comically-named Argeniss Ultimate 0day Exploits Pack. The rootkit in question could be used to hide a database user, run processes on a server, open connections or create new logins. Security experts advise watching databases closely, especially for changes in database objects made independent from software updates.
In its efforts to market Internet Explorer 7 , Microsoft has touted the browser's antiphishing filter as a major security advantage. Of course, this backfired a bit after a phishing bug was found in the browser, less than a week after its launch . Still serious about antiphishing protection? You may want …
As you may already know, we here at DailyTechRag think that the idea of web-based applications in the enterprise is pretty swell. So we couldn't help but be excited when DreamFactory showed us their newest product, Carousel, a web-based presentation tool. What exactly is a web-based presentation tool? When you think about the various ways that a political party might influence the vote, IT probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, whether you realize it or not, IT is increasingly important in both national and local political campaigns. PostgreSQL is the core and the company has a technical support deal with Sun Microsystems along with $28 million in venture capital funding. Alexander Kornbrust's lecture at Defcon 2006 was about opening eyes, not revealing specific technical flaws. Kornbrust runs a company called Red Database Security with a focus on what should be obvious but often isn't: passwords stored in text files, huge budgets spent protecting servers but leaving clients wide open, ineffective backup tape policies, and much more.
