Zen and rogue technologies in the enterprise

A lot of tech-savvy professionals are developing a bad habit of bringing in their own consumer products into the enterprise and assuming that they can ignore the IT policies.  This is shaping up to be a huge headache for CIOs. Yankee Group has a new report out that addresses the issue. Called "Zen and the Art of Rogue Employee Management," the report notes that 86 percent of all employees use consumer tech in the workplace on an ongoing basis. The problem, the study notes, occurs when these folks try to get help for their consumer products from the IT help desk. In order to respond to the trend, the authors suggest that CIOs include support for some of the most popular consumer devices on self-service support platforms. This would allow employees to install and configure their device of choice without burning a lot of help desk resources.
