Younger CIOs following a different trajectory

The typical CIO has paid his or dues, rising up through the ranks of the IT department and generally working throughout the organization before getting to the CIO level. But a new generation of IT professionals, those in their late 20's to mid-30's, are moving into executive management positions faster than their predecessors. CEOs are very interested in promoting these younger IT professionals because they're more interested in developing bench strength, doing talent contingency planning for the future, and finding people who will be team players for the next 10 to 15 years. And CEOs believe that less experienced IT executives are more driven, more willing to go the extra mile, and more adaptable to current trends in technology than are earlier generations. But younger IT executives may not have as much business management experience, which could cause problems.
