Xerox printers pose security risk
When you think security, tech leaders likely aren't focusing on the printer farm and the networks the printers serve. But if you're a Xerox user, you might want to check out how things are going with security, since the vendor is busy readying a patch for a vulnerability in its WorkCenter multifunction printers. According to one security expert, the printers can be the road to network data and traffic, due to a configuration issue with the printers' Web interface. As he pointed out during a demonstration at the recent Black Hat USA conference, there is a great deal of sensitive data moving through printers these days, and enterprises need to pull security tight on the powerful embedded devices in play today.
