Workplace Net use focus of IBM legal fight

You likely read about the former IBM employee who's suing the vendor for wrongful termination over workplace Internet use. It may not seem like a huge story, given all of the other tech news lately, but the legal precedent could have a major impact on business. The court will decide if Internet addiction is as legitimate as other health addictions and whether it should be treated in the same way that corporations handle other such employee issues. For tech leaders, it's a wakeup call for making sure that solid Web use policies are in place. In the IBM incident for example, if the workplace computers had had filters installed prohibiting online access to explicit chat rooms, we probably wouldn't be talking about this case at all.
